As Don Henley sang on "Driving with Your Eyes Closed" from the album "Building the Perfect Beast," "Everybody's got to have a purpose in this world." This poignant lyric has always stuck with me, particularly as I've grown older.

I’m John Rees and those words encapsulates the very essence of what this site is all about: my ongoing journey to find purpose in my life as I entered my 70th year in 2024.

In 1975, I graduated with a degree in Economics and Social Psychology, fueling my interest in understanding people, society, and the world around me. Being an avid fan of sports, I played rugby and tennis at the county level, which instilled in me the value of focus, resilience, and the will to succeed—qualities I later applied to my professional life.

From 1976 to 2018, I worked as an executive, mentor, and board advisor in the high-tech sector, traveling the world and collaborating with fascinating individuals. By any measure, my career was a success, and like many, I allowed myself to be defined by my professional achievements. But as life evolves, so do our priorities, and I began to contemplate the next phase of my life.

In 2019, I stepped away from corporate life and moved to the breathtaking Snowdonia National Park in North Wales. This change of pace provided me with the opportunity to reflect on what I truly wanted to do with the rest of my life.

My journey to find purpose is centered around my diverse interests: art and culture, hiking and adventure, health and wellbeing, psychology, philosophy, and photography. Through sharing my experiences and insights, I hope to create a space that is interesting, thought-provoking, and, above all, useful for those on their own path toward purpose and fulfilment.

I run ‘Walk and Talk’ sessions here in Snowdonia and if you’d like to learn more about how this works, click here.
